Built for curiosity.
Paul Allen commissioned Octopus for exploration. Lürssen’s design brings an internal dock, two helipads, a cinema and a music studio together in one yacht.

How the power works
The 2022 profile hosted by Lürssen describes two ABB electric propulsion motors. In a diesel-electric system, the diesel engines generate electricity; the electric motors turn the propellers.
The exact diesel variant and installed power need stronger evidence. Engine output and propulsion motor output are different measurements.
About that range
The operator gives up to 8,000 nautical miles, without specifying speed. The 2022 profile gives 12,500 nautical miles at 12.5 knots. These claims differ, so the number above is labelled with its source.
A knot is one nautical mile per hour. Range depends on speed and operating conditions.
